Overview

Project start date: 01.01.2024
Project end date: 31.12.2025

Engaging young people in local action for the SDGs empowers them to become active agents of change and contribute to sustainable development within their communities. By involving young individuals in meaningful projects and initiatives, they develop a sense of ownership, responsibility, and civic engagement, fostering a lifelong commitment to sustainable development. In addition, local action is key to achieving the global targets of the SDGs. As the SDGs are interconnected and address various social, economic, and environmental dimensions, addressing them at the local level creates a ripple effect that collectively contributes to global progress. Young people taking action in their local communities can have a tangible impact on issues such as poverty, education, climate change, gender equality, and more. Local action also provides young people with valuable opportunities for learning and skills development. By actively engaging in projects related to the SDGs, they gain practical experience, develop leadership abilities, enhance critical thinking, and strengthen problemsolving skills.

It has an estimated budget of €26.2 billion. The 2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions, and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life.
